Available Animals

Thank you for considering adoption of your next best friend from the Humane Society of Lebanon County. We have many wonderful pets who can’t wait to join your family.

Please note that we try to keep our website as current as possible and update it daily. If you would like to check and make sure that an animal you’re interested in is still at the shelter, please call (717) 628-1369 or email info@lebanonhumane.org to find out more!

Potential adopters are welcome to stop in our shelter anytime during open business hours.  Please note in order to help find you the best match, we are no longer doing adoptions or meet and greets after 4 pm (6 pm on Wednesdays). Thank you for understanding.

Unfortunately because of the high number of cats currently at our shelter, we continue to be very limited in the number of cats we are able to accept as strays or surrenders at this time. Please reach out to other local shelters and rescues. We sincerely apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

Thanks to Tim McGowan of Tim McGowan Studio  for bringing his fun photo booth to our events.  Tim also takes pet photos with Santa at our Annual Holiday Bazaar and with the Easter Bunny at our Annual Spring Fling at our Thrift Shop.  Tim is a professional photographer based in Lebanon County who takes beautiful photographs of people, pets and events.

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Tiger! This fella looves water and splashing! He loves puddles, doggie pools, absolutely any kind of water! Tiger is play motivated and enjoys his own personal space! Ball enthusiast? Yes! He could play ball all day! Tiger will be friends with anyone who will play with him! Very very smart? Yes! He knows sit, down, paw and stay. Tiger would be a great agility dog in future, very agile and trainable! This athletic hunk will thrive with an active owner who regularly runs or hikes. He is quite simply a fun, sweet dog! When visiting our shelter, please keep in mind Tiger does not show well in his kennel. Outside his kennel is where he shines! Tiger will need to be given ample time to get to know his new people (at this time is not an instant snuggler or lap dog). Our dog trainer recommends an adult only household where he is the only pet. Tiger is doing very well with his muzzle training. Although he is a resource guarder of high value items, he will give things to you in order to play. A meet and greet with all family members will be needed. If you are looking to adopt a pup as an only pet, please consider heart throb Tiger! He definitely deserves his second chance! Applications for Adoption are now being accepted for Tiger. Applications must be reviewed/approved by our Dog Trainer and Dog Staff before a Meet and Greet is scheduled. Please visit lebanonhumane.org to print our Adoption Application or one may be picked up anytime during open business hours here at our shelter. Tiger is a 2 year old neutered male mixed breed.

Introducing a lanky, long eared, handsome fella named Goose! Goose is a two year old neutered male Coonhound. Goose will thrive when he has a job to do like tracking. He will need to be exercised regularly. Goose will thrive when taken on long long walks (not runs). He needs ample time to do his important job of smelling and sniffing while on those long long walks. A consistent schedule and knowing what is expected is also a must. Gentle but firm discipline will be needed from his owner. Goose will guard any type of food or smell of food (is food aggressive). This handsome hound can be a cuddle bug but on his terms and his time. As a hound, Goose quite simply goes where his nose wants him to. A secure fenced yard (with a minimum height of 4 feet) and absolutely no invisible fence is a must as hounds laugh at those and/or an owner who is willing to take him out on a long leash (in all kinds of weather) is required (no tethering or tying out). Goose will thrive best in a home as the only pet and with children age 16 and older. Applications to adopt Goose are being received. Applications must be reviewed/approved by our Board of Directors before a Meet and Greet is scheduled. Please visit lebanonhumane.org to print our Adoption Application or one may be picked up anytime during open business hours here at our shelter.

Introducing not one but two super heroes! Maggie (female) and Kiko (male) are a very bonded pair of 7 year old Chihuahuas! These two cutie patooties need to be adopted together! They do everything together! This pair can be just a bit shy at first (slow intros work best), but are very sweet. Staff recommends they be the only pets in their new home! These two love going on walks together and are very in sync! Great walkers! There are no child restrictions for these two, but staff highly recommends a predictable calm adult household with laps to warm. Volunteers have found Maggie and Kiko are not all that interested in toys, but are very food motivated.Visit lebanonhumane.org for all the details on our adoption process or simply stop in our shelter anytime during open business hours!

Arnold is one of those pups who enjoys laying like a frog. Frog dog he is! We have found that Arnold has not had much dog socialization in the past, but it is something we are working on. For the moment, we recommend Arnold be the only pet in the family until he can spend some more time working on his basic manners. Someone is ready for adoption! Annabella is a four year old, 50 pound female shepherd mix. She has completed treatment for heart worm and is now ready for her new home. New people and situations tend to make her anxious. She is on an anxiety medication which seems to help her. She loves other dogs, as long as they are not too pushy. She also did wonderfully with the cats in her foster home. Annabella will do best in a quieter home with a consistent routine and an owner who will give her time to adjust. She will bond strongly with one person and prefers women. Once bonded with you, she will be a devoted friend for life. This gal is very food motivated and learns quickly. Annabella is crate trained, walks well on a leash and knows the sit, down and shake commands. This gal will thrive best in a home without human kiddos. Annabella is still in her foster home. Introducing volunteer favorite, Hannah! Hannah is our super star! She recently appeared on Good Day PA, a morning show on local tv station, ABC 27. She loved riding in the car to the tv studio. She also enjoyed meeting the package delivery man and the mail lady outside the tv studio in Harrisburg! Affectionately called Hannah Banana this gal enjoys going for walks and exploring outside! A simple 30 minute walk in the morning and a 30 minute walk in the evening sound great to her! Hannah is treat motivated and looves back scratches and belly rubs. Hannah likes to be near her humans, but not necessarily on her humans. She is very loyal and sweet once she gets to know you. Hannah was previously adopted from our shelter but sadly had to be returned when her owners moved and could not take her with them. Hannah does AOK with human kiddos but would need to be the only canine in your family! Hannah is a three year old spayed female mixed breed! In the Spring of 2019 Hannah will be here at our shelter for one year! Please consider opening your heart and home to this lovely girl! She oh so deserves to be loved and cherished by her very own family! Introducing a feline fella we simply call Cliff! Cliff is a mere five months old. This handsome fella arrived at our shelter as a stray. He has gorgeous coloring. Hunky Cliff can play hard to get. He can be a bit shy when first meeting him. He will need to be given just a bit of time to warm up and get to know his surroundings in his new home. Once he is comfortable and given some time to settle in, we think he will be as snug as a bug in a rug! Please consider adding Cliff to your feline loving family! Introducing beautiful, independent Miley! This gorgeous spayed female is 6 years old! Miley has been at our shelter over a year! Gorgeous Miley would thrive best in a quiet home with lots of freedom and room to roam. Quite simply a few special cozy spots to call her very own are all she is asking for! A home with adult humans would be ideal for this girl! Staff feels she might do okay with a feline sibling as long as they understand her love of being an independent girl! Purrhaps a feline sibling who is just as mature and independent as purrty Miley might be a good match (no silly kitten antics for this girl). Here at our shelter staff has found that Miley is not so fond of those silly, wiggly jiggly canine creatures. Please consider adding this feline beauty to your heart and home! She truly deserves her second chance! Visit lebanonhumane.org for details on our adoption process or stop in our shelter anytime during open business hours!

Licensing

If you are adopting a dog or puppy over three months of age, Pennsylvania law requires that you purchase a dog license at the time of adoption. Fees vary from $5.00 to $9.00 depending on the adopter and the dog’s sterilization status. We can provide Lebanon County residents with a 2019 dog license when adopting. Residents of other counties must obtain a license from their County Treasurer or a satellite office.

Adoption Packages

Cat and Dog adoption packages include the following: first vaccinations, de-worming, flea treatment, HomeAgain microchip and starter bag of Hill’s Science Diet food.

Cat adoption also includes FeLV/FIV test.

Dog adoption includes collar and leash.

Unfortunately at the present time we are not able to provide spay/neuter services for all our adopted animals. Every attempt is being made at securing sterilization services for all our adopted animals.

In the interim at the time of adoption a $30 spay/neuter deposit will be charged and a spay/neuter agreement will be signed. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling a spay/neuter appointment with a veterinarian. Once the adopter provides our shelter with proof of spay/neuter of the adopted animal, the $30 spay/neuter deposit will be refunded by check in the mail.

SAFER Assessment

The Humane Society of Lebanon County follows the ASPCA’s SAFER (Safety Assessment For Evaluating Rehoming) assessment to evaluate new dogs who are brought into the shelter. SAFER is a seven point temperament assessment which helps the Humane Society staff to better learn about our shelter dogs’ behaviors and best place them in homes where they are least likely to be returned.
