Special Updated Announcement

Updated: 3/28/20

We are currently accepting applications for adoptions. The goal is to continue to have animals adopted while also reducing the amount of foot traffic in our building.  So, even though we remain closed, we are making appointments for adoptions. Please review the guidelines below:

Step 1: Check out what animals we have available for adoption on our website, lebanonhumane.org, Facebook page and Petfinder.com.

Click here to view our adoptable animals on our website

Click here to visit the Facebook page of our shelter

Click here to view our adoptable animals on Petfinder

Step 2: If you find a pet that seems to be the right fit for your family, please fill out and submit the appropriate application. You can print the application from our website: lebanonhumane.org . Once you’ve filled out your application, you may email to info@lebanonhumane.org or fax to 717-866-2782.

Please note: for an application to be considered, you must provide proof of the following for all animals currently in your home:

  • current rabies vaccination
  • current distemper vaccination
  • proof of spay/neuter
  • contact number for landlord (if you rent)

Step 3: When appropriate, our adoption team will reach out to arrange a meet and greet. Each appointment is for the single dog or cat listed on your submitted application; if you wish to see another pet, you must schedule another appointment.

If multiple applications are received for an animal, please understand that our goal at the Humane Society is to ensure that all of our shelter animals are matched with their ideal human companion and are placed in a home where they will be happy and thrive. The safety and health of our shelter pets always comes first. We will always make the decision that is in the best interest of the shelter animal.

Step 4: Meet and greet appointments will be scheduled in advance. Meet and greets for dogs will take place outside of the shelter. Meet and greets for cats will take place in a designated space inside the shelter. Only members of the family who will be living with the animals will be allowed to attend.

Safety is our main concern at this time. Our staff needs to remain safe and healthy in order for our animals to continue receiving care. If you or any of your family members are feeling ill in anyway, please do not schedule a meet and greet.

Thank you for your help and understanding during this difficult time.

Updated: 03/16/20

The Humane Society of Lebanon County is temporarily closed to the public in accordance with Governor Tom Wolf’s direction for non-essential services to be curtailed or closed. We ask for the community’s patience and understanding as we face an unprecedented situation.

We will assist those in emergency situations such as lost dogs or cats but we are not accepting surrendered pets at this time. The delivery of donations, stray animals, and other necessary operations must be made by appointment, arranged by phone. Adoptions are temporarily suspended.

Our Facebook page and website will be updated to reflect changing conditions. Check those sources of information, as well as the Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Office and the Centers for Disease Control.

We have no on-staff veterinarians. If you have an animal with a medical emergency, please seek immediate veterinary care.

Call 717-628-1369 with questions. We may experience staff shortages and high call volumes, so please be patient. We are working to manage and return calls.

Rescue Me Dance! Thank you!

Woofs, purrs and thank you to one and all who supported our recent Rescue Me Dance! Wowza, Meowza! What a great evening of yummy food, dancing, fun and frolic all to benefit the shelter animals! We could not do what we do without you!

Save the date for our next Rescue Me Dance!
Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Eagles Auditorium in Lebanon, PA with DJ Dave Kaley!

Thank you for your support. We are grateful.

Here at the Humane Society of Lebanon County, we are constantly humbled by the generosity of our community. This fall and winter, the shelter has received mountains of needed supplies, from dog treats and cat food to brooms and blankets. These donations have come loaded on shipping pallets, in sleds towed by large dogs, and in jars full of pennies carried by children. We have seen monetary donations slide across our desk, appear in the mail, and arrive from the corners of cyberspace. A few selfless volunteers have been busy trying to sort the tidal wave of receipts and paperwork from all these sources so we can say thank you.

Make no mistake:  we are grateful. Each donation is important for the daily operation of the shelter:  we will forever need soap and brooms and laundry detergent. But it also means something to those of us who work here. It is hard work, physically and emotionally, to keep our animals warm, safe and healthy. So we, more than most, understand the time and effort needed to gather up a strange assortment of supplies and deliver them to the shelter, sometimes from miles away.

Knowing that our donors work hard to help these animals makes us just as appreciative of home-made Christmas cards as we are for a truckload of supplies from a big company. Each day, someone arrives to drop off a bag of dog food or a box of cat toys or a bottle of soap and this demonstrates that people are willing to give what they can. It means they care about our furry friends (and the turtles, of course!) Donations not only help us provide for a never-ending flow of homeless pets but also keep us going when the days are short and the nights are cold. For these donations – and on behalf of the dogs, cats, rats, gerbils, turtles, guinea pigs and ferrets who have benefited – we offer everyone our sincerest thanks.
