Spring 2020 Appeal Letter
Dear Friends of the Humane Society of Lebanon County,
We wanted to thank you for your generosity and support you have shown us in the past. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to temporarily close our Thrift Shop and postpone several of our fundraising events. The lost income from this was vital in helping us sustain our daily operating expenses for the shelter, along with providing care needed for our animals.
With much needed support and help we are able to give unwanted, stray and injured animals the care they deserve, the shelter they need and the hope they will find a loving home they deserve. Your donation helps in so many ways. It provides food, medicine, housing, medical funds and so much more. With your support we can continue to save and change lives. Please help us with our mission.
Like many other businesses and organizations, we have had to cut back on staff and other essentials that are needed in our day to day operations.
We are uncertain about the future but we can make it through this together. Can you be our hero and donate? Our animals thank you from the bottom of their hearts.
On behalf of the HSLC Board, staff and animals,
President, Humane Society of Lebanon County Board of Directors
The Humane Society of Lebanon County (HSLC) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization which means your generous gift goes directly to support our work to save the countless lives of not only dogs and cats, but also rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, rats and mice, reptiles and various other domesticated animals.

We are currently accepting applications for adoptions. The goal is to continue to have animals adopted while also reducing the amount of foot traffic in our building. So, even though we remain closed, we are making appointments for adoptions. Please review the guidelines below:
Step 1: Check out what animals we have available for adoption on our website, lebanonhumane.org, Facebook page and Petfinder.com.
Click here to view our adoptable animals on our website
Click here to visit the Facebook page of our shelter
Click here to view our adoptable animals on Petfinder
Step 2: If you find a pet that seems to be the right fit for your family, please fill out and submit the appropriate application. You can print the application from our website: lebanonhumane.org . Once you’ve filled out your application, you may email to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 717-866-2782.
Please note: for an application to be considered, you must provide proof of the following for all animals currently in your home:
- current rabies vaccination
- current distemper vaccination
- proof of spay/neuter
- contact number for landlord (if you rent)
Step 3: When appropriate, our adoption team will reach out to arrange a meet and greet. Each appointment is for the single dog or cat listed on your submitted application; if you wish to see another pet, you must schedule another appointment.
If multiple applications are received for an animal, please understand that our goal at the Humane Society is to ensure that all of our shelter animals are matched with their ideal human companion and are placed in a home where they will be happy and thrive. The safety and health of our shelter pets always comes first. We will always make the decision that is in the best interest of the shelter animal.
Step 4: Meet and greet appointments will be scheduled in advance. Meet and greets for dogs will take place outside of the shelter. Meet and greets for cats will take place in a designated space inside the shelter. Only members of the family who will be living with the animals will be allowed to attend.
Safety is our main concern at this time. Our staff needs to remain safe and healthy in order for our animals to continue receiving care. If you or any of your family members are feeling ill in anyway, please do not schedule a meet and greet.
Thank you for your help and understanding during this difficult time.
The Humane Society of Lebanon County is temporarily closed to the public in accordance with Governor Tom Wolf’s direction for non-essential services to be curtailed or closed. We ask for the community’s patience and understanding as we face an unprecedented situation.
We will assist those in emergency situations such as lost dogs or cats but we are not accepting surrendered pets at this time. The delivery of donations, stray animals, and other necessary operations must be made by appointment, arranged by phone. Adoptions are temporarily suspended.
Our Facebook page and website will be updated to reflect changing conditions. Check those sources of information, as well as the Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Office and the Centers for Disease Control.
We have no on-staff veterinarians. If you have an animal with a medical emergency, please seek immediate veterinary care.
Call 717-628-1369 with questions. We may experience staff shortages and high call volumes, so please be patient. We are working to manage and return calls.
We are very thankful and humbled by all the items continually donated to our shelter. The support of folks in our community and beyond is very much appreciated.
We have checked our current inventory and updated our Most Needed Shelter Items Wish List. Donations of any of these items would be greatly appreciated, could you or your group lend a paw purrty please?

Do you wish you can save them all but know you just can’t? We have the solution! Volunteer to be a foster parent at the Humane Society of Lebanon County and help get our animals off to a great start before going up for adoption!
Sometimes puppies and kittens come into the shelter before they’re old enough to go up for adoption. Sometimes animals are undersocialized and could just use some time living in a home and adjusting to a home-life routine. And sometimes animals suffer from treatable medical issues that will better heal outside of the shelter setting. This is where you come in!
We’ll be with you every step of the way. We’ll answer any questions or concerns you have during the foster period. We’ll schedule check-ups with our foster coordinator or a veterinarian. And we ensure you have access to us 24 hours a day should an emergency arise.
The Humane Society’s foster program provides you with everything needed to care for your new charge, including food, litter, bedding, crates, medications, and anything else your foster animal may need while in your care. All we require you to provide is time, love, and patience.
If you’re interested in fostering, please fill out our foster application and submit it to Foster Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or by mailing it to: Foster Coordinator, Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N Ramona Rd, Myerstown PA 17067.
A TNR clinic for stray and feral cats will be held on Saturday, June 3! Drop off will be between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. Pick up will be between 2 pm and 4 pm (or earlier if staff calls once the cat is awake and ready to go home).
These TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) clinics will be low-cost spay and neuter clinics for feral and stray cats. The shelter takes appointments for TNR clinics via phone at (717) 628-1369, or by email at email@example.com. There will be 25 spots available per clinic, with spots being reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. No more than 3 spots will be reserved for a single individual per clinic. Cats must be brought to the shelter either in a trap or in a carrier.
Cost for the clinics is $30 per cat, which includes the spay and neuter surgery and a rabies vaccine. All cats will be ear-tipped for identification purposes. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Additional services offered include a FVRCP vaccine for $10, a FeLV/FIV test for $20, and flea preventative and deworming treatment for $10.
Lebanon City Residents:
To report an area with a large population of unowned stray and feral cats, within the Lebanon City limits, please email: TNR@LebanonHumane.org. The HSLC and the City of Lebanon have begun a partnership to address these areas of concern through TNR and re-homing services.
Recommended Low-Cost Clinics
While the shelter cannot at this time offer vaccinations or spay/neuter surgeries for the public other than what is offered in clinics, there are a number of low-cost veterinary services which the shelter does recommend to the surrounding community. Contact information for these clinics is listed below.

The Humane Society of Lebanon County will be holding a special training class specifically for anyone interested in volunteering as a dog walker at the shelter.
At this training session we will discuss safe handling protocol for walking our shelter dogs and give a brief demo on our SAFER temperament assessment. You MUST attend this training session before walking dogs at the shelter. Classes are held once per month.
Please join us and learn how you can make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs in Lebanon County.
